Global Healthcare Exchange And Omnicell Partner To Connect OmniBuyer Users To GHX’s Network Of Suppliers
Healthcare Information And Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Annual Conference Booth 1614 (GHX) And 6032 (Omnicell).Global Healthcare Exchange, LLC (GHX) and Omnicell have agreed to integrate Omnicell’s e-procurement application for the health care industry, OmniBuyer, with Global Healthcare Exchange’s extensive medical and non-medical supply network.

OmniBuyer users will be able to purchase supplies via the Internet from GHX’s comprehensive industry-standard catalog. More than 70 manufacturers and distributors are currently members of GHX, and together they represent more than 80 percent of the supplies and materials purchased by hospitals.

“This partnership with GHX will provide our OmniBuyer customers with access to the world’s leading health care manufacturers and distributors,” said Shelly Asher, president and CEO of Omnicell. “The alliance supports our vision of simplifying the purchasing needs of health care facilities.”

Omnicell provides a complete end-to-end solution for the supply chain management needs of the health care industry. Through Omnicell’s systems, users have convenient control over the dispensing and management of supplies and medications at the point of use. With OmniBuyer, health care facilities can realize the efficiencies associated with purchasing their supplies on line.

The companies expect to integrate their first joint customer, Chicago-based Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center, by early April, 2001.

“Using Omnicell to access GHX provides us with a complete solution to our procurement needs,” says John Cashmore, director of purchasing for Rush-Presbyterian. “Individual hospital departments will have the convenience of placing orders through OmniBuyer -- and GHX’s catalog will ensure those departments can make purchasing decisions and track orders based on the most complete and reliable information direct from the suppliers and distributors.”

GHX’s Internet-based technology was developed exclusively for the health care industry. The company’s end-to-end solution gives hospitals single source ordering capabilities for both medical and non-medical products. As suppliers update product pricing, availability and other information, hospitals will be able to instantly access the revised data.

“Partnering with Omnicell is a key factor in achieving our overall goal of providing convenient connectivity options for our customers,” says GHX President Mike Mahoney. “We look forward to providing the more than 1300 hospitals and health care facilities currently using Omnicell with access to the Exchange. Omnicell’s supply inventory and use management services provide the perfect complement to GHX’s on-line catalog and order tracking services.”
