National Sorbents, Inc., a publicly traded producer and marketer of environmental sorbent products, announced the creation of the Mortuary and Allied Health Division to meet the needs of the mortuary, organ and tissue banks, and allied medical professions in the control of bodily fluids by solidification.
According to Dan Jones, CEO of NSI, "There are two key problems facing the mortuary, medical and transplant tissue bank professions: How to stop body fluid leakage from complicating the preparation, viewing, and funeral of a body by family and friends; and how to reduce the potential occupational exposure to HIV, Hepatitis B and C and various other blood-borne pathogens. These products were also developed with an understanding of the problems encountered by care givers in hospitals, nursing homes, home care and hospice."
Jones stated that Dr. Anthony M. Iacobucci and Dr. Donald E. Douthit, who are among the leading authorities in the fields of mortuary science and post tissue and organ donation reconstruction, have been chosen to lead the new division. Dr. Iacobucci is a professor of Business Administration at the University of Cincinnati and a professor of management in the department of Management and Entrepreneurship at Xavier University in Cincinnati. Dr. Iacobucci is also the former Dean of the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science and is Marketing Director of the non-profit Ohio Valley Tissue and Skin Center in Cincinnati.
Dr. Douthit was involved in the development of NSI's DRY N' LOCK(R) mortuary line and is a nationally recognized educator, author and lecturer within the mortuary science profession. He is presently the Director of Education and Program Development with the Ohio Valley Tissue and Skin Center in Cincinnati, and is the Director of Education and Technical Support for the H.S. Eckels Company of Guelph, Ontario. Dr. Douthit has published over 40 documents in professional mortuary science and occupational health journals and performed over 150 lectures nationally and internationally. Dr. Douthit has served as a consultant to local, state and federal government agencies, and serves as an expert witness in civil mortuary science legal matters. Dr. Douthit is also the former Director of Research of the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science, where he served as a faculty member for 17 years.
NSI's DRY N' LOCK(R) sorbent products are a unique mixture of materials that have been successfully used in the chemical industry for 17 years. "These products will not react with body tissues or embalming fluids, and are safe to the environment if cremated," said Jones. "They are designed as a supplement to current embalming techniques. The unique properties of sorbent materials allow DRY N' LOCK(R) products to capture and retain all bodily fluids indefinitely without the threat of breakdown and leakage, which is currently a common problem of products now available to mortuary, medical and tissue, and organ recovery professionals."
