Philips Medical Systems North America Signs Marketing Agreement With InSiteOne

Philips Medical Systems North America of Shelton, Conn., a leading supplier of diagnostic imaging systems and related services worldwide today announced it has entered into a marketing agreement with InSiteOne, a provider of online and nearline digital imaging storage and archiving services. Under the terms of the agreement, Philips will incorporate InSiteOne’s patent-pending InDex(TM) archive solution as part of its Inturis for Radiology Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) Application Service Provider (ASP) solution.

Radiology departments and imaging centers have become increasingly interested in ASP solutions in radiology because of the reductions in capital costs and implementation time. “Philips Medical Systems’ ASP solutions give our customers more choices and flexibility in developing or expanding their PACS infrastructure,” said Milan diPierro, business unit manager for Integrated Clinical Solutions at Philips Medical Systems North America. “By including the InDex service in our ASP offerings we can leverage InSiteOne’s expertise and focus, and help to deliver a more robust and flexible image archive in an ASP model to our customers.”

“This agreement with Philips Medical Systems is another example of the strengths of our open architecture solution,” said Richard Friswell, CEO of InSiteOne. “It’s also an important step and clear evidence of the strengths of both our business model and technological solution. We look forward to working together with Philips to bring our mutual customers powerful and cost-effective PACS functionality.”

InSiteOne’s InDex provides a cost-effective and flexible way to securely store and retrieve Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) images from medical imaging equipment such as CT scanners, MRIs and PACS. Doctors in hospitals then use these digital images to make a diagnosis or follow a patient’s treatment or management. InDex’s open architecture integrates with any DICOM-compliant PACS modality, such as Philips’ Inturis for Radiology, as well as hospital networks and information systems. It complements the functionality, performance and economy of an enterprise PACS by enabling hospitals to cost-effectively outsource the PACS storage and archiving component.

About Inturis for Radiology

Philips Medical Systems’ Inturis for Radiology is a scalable and modular PACS, featuring sophisticated search tools which support the workflow of Radiology departments by allowing searches in Multiple DICOM databases and patient information systems. The system has evolved from Philips’ five-year partnership with Sweden-based Sectra-Imtec AB. Inturis for Radiology responds to the unique needs and specifications of PACS workstation operators. It synergizes Philips’ breadth of technology in voice recognition, flat panel monitors and data management with the software development expertise of Sectra.
