Each year, USP receives numerous applications for research projects that closely parallel USP's strategic areas. USP's priority research areas in drug standards include: chemical analysis of botanical dietary supplements; biotechnology-based molecule characterization; methods for reducing solvent use; powder characterization/water adsorption/desorption; biopharmaceutical quality; pharmacy compounding; development of stability-indicated methods for compounded preparations. Since the program was initiated in 1981, USP has invested more than $2.2 million in 176 fellowship awards. Applications were reviewed and ranked by selection committees that included Council of Experts and Expert Committee members with expertise in topic areas related to the research proposals.
