The one-day conference occurred on August 25, 2000, as a satellite symposium to the International Society of Hypertension 18th Scientific Meeting. The co-chairmen of the symposium were Dr. Claude Lenfant, Director of NHLBI, and Dr. Jeffrey Cutler, Director of the Clinical Applications and Prevention Program, Division of Epidemiology and Clinical Applications, NHLBI.

In addition to a keynote talk by Dr. Lenfant, the conference highlights nine speakers covering the broad spectrum of hypertension research and its application, in which NHLBI has major involvement, from molecular genetics to public health. Topics and speakers include:
