Laser Technology Detects Glaucoma In Crucial Early Stages
As A Result The Leading Cause Of Preventable Blindness May Now Be Controlled Before Loss Of Vision. Early detection of glaucoma is crucial as studies have shown that the degradation of the retinal fiber layer, the earliest site of damage caused by the disease, can occur years before the patient notices any visual symptoms.

On December 21, 2000, President Clinton signed historic legislation granting the first glaucoma detection benefit under Medicare.

Up to 3,000,000 Americans suffer from glaucoma; those at particular risk are over the age of fifty, African Americans over the age of 35, diabetics and those with a family history of the disease.

Traditional methods for glaucoma screening such as the air puff test, may not catch glaucoma before it affects vision.

The latest technology employs innovative lasers to catch glaucoma in its earliest stages. The GDx Access(TM) measures the tissue in the back of the eye directly affected by the disease. Testing is painless and takes just a few minutes.
