XTRACTOR Specimen Retrieval Device Receives CE Mark. Minogue Medical announced today the receipt of the CE mark for the XTRACTOR Specimen Retrieval Device. This notable classification allows for the immediate availability to sell the XTRACTOR in the European marketplace. Minogue Medical has worldwide marketing rights for the XTRACTOR. The XTRACTOR will facilitate the removal of gallbladders, and other tissues in laparoscopic surgeries. It is estimated close to two million gallbladders are removed each year worldwide.
Danny Minogue, President of Minogue Medical, explains the device simply, “with the help of laparoscopic surgeons we have designed a simple retrieval instrument that will expedite the removal of dissected tissues and will eliminate costly O.R. time and frustration on the part of the surgeon.” Minogue Medical recently exhibited at MEDICA, the world’s largest medical and hospital exhibition, where the XTRACTOR received excellent reviews.
The XTRACTOR has a pistol grip fabricated from medical grade polymers and the retrieval pouch is constructed of a highly durable polyurethane plastic. The device is deployed through the small laparoscopic trocar site, and opens like an umbrella to allow surgeons to deposit tissues inside the bag. The bag is in then compressed in a cylindrical shape, allowing the surgeon to remove the bag easily without the contents bunching up in the bottom of the bag, a frustrating issue with current retrieval bags.
Minogue Medical is currently establishing international dealers and distributors around the world to sell the XTRACTOR. The product is still pending FDA review.
